Starcraft DS - Test by FreakyEd Starcraft DS - Test by FreakyEd
Man, if this was real I would sure buy it! I love this game and this pretend-cover art shows it! :)

I thought Starcraft would make a better port than it's N64/PSX counterpart, all thanks to the stylus, think about it. If Blizzard ever make this true...

It even comes with "Wi-Fi" connection, so I could imagine people getting on multiplayer very often. Too bad it ain't the real thing...for now.

Surprisingly done in 35 minutes.

It's not exactly an easy thing to do, especially considering the N64 port wasn't that well received. We can only but hope that they find a way to solve this using today's newly revamped tech.

^^; It's meant to be a fake box art, showing out what can one of my the templates I have can do. I think in the real world they might just use the same cover they used for the original Starcraft though. [Unless this game would've represented the Terran version]

If you want to tinker with the template and make your own Nintendo DS Cover Box Art, you can find it [here]. It's nice to tinker around with it and see what you can come up with, so go ahead and try it out if you want :)

Ooh, I've been thinking about the same thing for quite some time! I wonder what the top screen would be used for though.

Just one problem.

The top screen could be used for a variety of things I think. In multiplayer games [WiFi especially] they might set it up so that the game tracks the score like when you finish a game. They can also use that screen to use it as some sort of mini-map and present like some sort of menu that serves as the buttons that are found on the lower-right side of the screen. They'll be able to switch these screens by using the shoulder buttons [L and R]. [They could present in-game conversations in here as well with full pixels, including the Terra Adjutant/Advisor :XD:]

The bottom screen will be used heavily to direct the units around. Using certain buttons you'll be able to direct your units around. Like, drag a box into some units, hold A to attack, and tap something on screen to attack there. Since there's going to be only eight commands this way instead of nine [4 buttons and 4 d-pad] there's got to be a way to remedy the 9th button in this case...

I dunno, that's how I see it

By not enough pixels I mean the DS has insufficient resolution to support a full-blown StarCraft game. The only way I see getting around this is by downsizing the resolution of the game so that it becomes compatible for the DS. Or make bigger screens while shrinking pixel size, whatever works best.

Hmm, valid points. The game's quite too intense for the system to bear. It'll take a while to compress all those graphics and still look good.

With the iPad it's a different story though. Its resolution is so high it'll be able to fully support StarCraft and hve enough spare room for a keyboard display

That might be a good idea at a glance, yet would they also employ gestures as shortcuts for some commands as well? Either way, it'll be interesting to see how they would work out if a project actually comes by :P

THERE MUST BE WAR!!

GOD WILLS IT!!

The public would demand it, salivating so badly that they'd drown in it. Even if they hinted at it, Nintendo could make a fortune in Korea alone on this. Why haven't they yet?

Maybe Blizzard's just not thought of it yet. Then again, putting such a game like this could be bothersome work, and maybe they don't want to do the same mistakes they did when porting the games to N64/Playstation? Who knows? :O

But I think that the problems inherent with the N64 version had something to do with the fact that there there was no mouse to grab units and there was no easily created system to tell the units what to do quickly enough.

If Nintendo was given free reign to create a Starcraft all their own, it would end up coming out something like Advance Wars or FFXII: Revenant Wings, both very good strategy games(and the latter was an RTS done superbly on the DS).

Blizzard hasn't done too well with consoles. There's too much of a sour taste left in their mouths from Starcraft: Ghost. The child that nobody wanted only ended up being a book. And a prequel at that.

Nintendo hasn't done anyone dirty who didn't invest in their releases half-assed. So if they were serious about it, Blizzard could create something nice from the ground up on a handheld and come out smelling like a rose. Hell, Sonic came out with less turd stench after Bioware did Chronicles on the DS and Sonic is a franchise nowadays familiar with Suck and Fail.

Yeah, but it can depend on multiple factors as well, like how many units can the DS handle at the same time and how the arrangement of the screen will be i.e. fully functional replica of the interface for all of the races while in keeping on touch with the touch controls to still slect units and the like, while the top would function for the unit's stats and a mini-map of the world, or something like that. It all comes to specs really.

Blizzard could handle itself fine with the transsaction if they plan the move carefully, but then again they could use Nintendo, SquareEnix, maybe BioWare to some extent to make the move. Blizzard only needs to graps ahead of PCs, because honestly, they're no longer any excuses as to not make any more moves to certain "limitations" on the PS3, 360 or Wii for that matter.

Speaking of Bioware, they really made Sonic look a bit better there. I'd swear, those latest Sonic games are really...of low quality. I'd say the last good sonic game was SA2. Kinda a fan of Sonic here, but mostly for some storylines of the games (discounts Next Gen)

I'd expect them to put in a cap on how many units you can make period. (It's RTS, even heroes will die if you screw things up) So swarms of Zerglings aren't going to be much of a problem in a handheld if the computer has to stick to the same rules as you do. Your top and bottom screen ideas sound cool tho'.

I wasn't really suggesting a copy of Starcraft,(because I know it can't be done well, it would be autofail from the gate in my opinion) but a new experience with the same idea. Porting it would be a nice idea if done correctly. But only a home console would have any hope of doing that correctly. That, I agree with you on, that the limits of making something for console have gone as far as the horizon.

You have a lot of freedom, so long as you remember that consoles don't have mice or keyboards. I'm digging the voice controls for HAWX myself and see a future for it if people have headsets. That could also work on the DS for RTS games.

On the other note, I'm digging the handheld Sonic games a lot more than the console ones. Unleashed was one step forward then three steps back into a ditch. Too much F'ing werehog, not enough Sonic.

I'm of the opinion that Sega needs to just make Sonic games in the same way that Capcom made Street Fighter 4 or Sonic Rush, a 2D plane with 3D sprites. It's hard to screw up a platformer in that respect. Adding useless features can do that however. I'm looking squarely at Rush 2 on that one. Sonic on a jetski and force vehicle exploration were bull.

They should include it to get really good sales.

Maybe the bad thing is that you wouldn't be able to create maps with it, but I was thinking they would get over that with "Downloadable Maps" they make via Wi-Fi gameplay or some other function. (up to 1-3 custom maps only of course, but it's better than nothing) I would try attempting that if I was a programmer.

I think playing with a stylus is gonna be faster, but at the same time a little harder (since it's missing a "right-click" function). But still...

Well, I kinda didn't had the T for teen at that moment (was finishing the DS Template) and since it was a test (hence the title), ah well, but that'll be fixed, thank for reminding me.

Oh man, did you see the graphics!? It was frigin cool, I (literaly) wanted to cry! Gotta have it!!! (if it comes out soon...well, I'll explode of joy)
